Red Deer’s downtown is the heart of our city but for too long, its governance has been fragmented and burdensome for local businesses. As Chair of the DBA, I’ve led the charge to explore a new governance model that better reflects the diversity of our downtown and reduces red tape for entrepreneurs. I believe in a downtown that’s vibrant, inclusive, and economically resilient and I’ll continue to champion smart, community-driven solutions that make it thrive.
We live in an age of digital noise and disengagement. Social media has changed how we connect, but it’s also eroded our sense of shared purpose. I believe our city council and administration must do more to educate residents about how our municipality works, and why it matters. Civic pride isn’t just a slogan; it’s built through transparency, outreach, and meaningful engagement. I’ll advocate for clearer communication, stronger community programs, and initiatives that make every citizen feel proud to call Red Deer home.
Red Deer’s unhoused population has doubled in just two years. This is not just a statistic; it’s a call to action. We must work urgently and collaboratively with provincial and federal partners to secure the support and resources our city needs. As past President of the Canadian Home Builders Association, (BILDCA), I will be a strong voice for compassionate, evidence-based housing solutions that prioritize dignity, safety, and long-term stability for all.
Red Deer’s financial future depends on thoughtful, forward-looking budget strategies. We need a comprehensive review of how our city spends and invests, ensuring efficiency without compromising services. I believe we must find innovative ways to increase revenue without placing additional burdens on residents or businesses. That means attracting new industries to Central Alberta, supporting local entrepreneurs, and positioning Red Deer as a hub for sustainable economic growth.
